The boss of “Pirogov”, Dr. Valentin Dimitrov, hit back at Health Minister Hristo Hinkov by making revelations about “Pirogov”.
The accumulated 31 million debts that the minister is talking about were not accumulated now, but in the last 20 years, at a time when I was not at “Pirogov” at all, said Dr. Dimitrov at an extraordinary briefing at the hospital. Behind him stood all the doctors from the emergency hospital who do not agree with Hinkov’s decision to fire the executive director of Pirogov.
The health minister’s claims that “Pirogov” is bankrupt are insinuations, Dimitrov was categorical.
There are two dangers. One is the insinuations that “Pirogov” is facing bankruptcy. For me, these insinuations are unacceptable and politically immature from the mouth of a minister, commented the head of the emergency hospital.
“Colleagues were worried that they would not be able to collect their salaries because of bankruptcy. These are people who save human lives. This is the first big danger before us,” he emphasized.
“The second danger is that people are already worried about whether, by coming here, they will receive adequate medical care and what they came for,” he fears.
“The insinuations are clear. For the time that I have been at the head of this hospital, the company has been making a profit. I started work on June 27, 2020. Until October 31 of this year, we have over 1 million profit,” he said.
“Pirogov” is an institution, and doctors are angels. Any involvement of “Pirogov” in political struggles is not acceptable, because the hospital treats people from the poorest to the richest”, said Valentin Dimitrov. He called on the prosecutor’s office to investigate it. He will request that Asen Vassilev and audit authorities do such an inspection.
“All these people, with their work, raised the earnings of “Pirogov” from BGN 5 to 10 million, Valentin Dimitrov pointed out to his colleagues. And he said: “When someone attacks and insults the hospital, they insult these people in white coats who save human lives . We are not criminals. I am here to lead processes, not to commit crimes,” he emphasized.
“I was not called to the ministry, no recommendations were made to me. Methodical pressure was applied to me. I am not advised,” he said.
“I can’t find a connection between anything. Politics is a different game than here. With us is the living life. My position on Mustafa Emin, including then, was that we do not want a scandal. Any parent can make the mistake of worrying about their child. It is possible. These people work under constant stress. Everyone threatens them with something. There would be no scandal there if people were dialogic. I called DB with their entire ethics committee before the scandal happened and told them ‘people, these are the things, let’s do things intelligently, because there is no need for scandals and riots,'” he said.
According to him, the people from DB were educated, but there was silence afterwards.
“My moral views and the political game are two different things. You know how the devil reads the Gospel,” he added.
According to him, the attack was on a personal basis by Prof. Hinkov. He added that many political leaders have called him to support him.
“They called me from the left, from the right, from the center. I will not mention names on purpose, so as not to forget someone. We received support from many places,” the head of “Pirogov” also said.
The hospital’s executive director, Dr. Valentin Dimitrov, was relieved of his post on Tuesday by Minister Hinkov and replaced by Dr. Konstantin Dimov.
GERB immediately reacted and announced a boycott of the government because of the change of director. They demanded the creation of a mechanism for making decisions in the “assembly”, and Kostadin Angelov stated that the audit for “Pirogov”, which caused the change of management, was “sucked from his fingers”. The new director has not yet been officially registered, however, as the procedure has been suspended by the court.
Meanwhile, the prosecutor’s office has started an investigation based on the audit report.
