The United States is in talks with allied nations to create a task force to protect merchant shipping in the Red Sea. This was reported by the spokesman of the White House, Jake Sullivan, according to whom the sea patrols will be an appropriate response to the frequent attacks by the Yemeni rebels.
The patrols are likely to be modeled after task forces operating in the Persian Gulf and off the coast of Somalia.
Yesterday, the Houthis carried out two new attacks in the Red Sea. Two vessels were damaged. Since November 19, the “Galaxy Leader”, on board of which there are two Bulgarians, has been captured by the Yemeni rebels.
