“Within the negotiations for this government, I am the political representative of GERB. From then on, what is important for me is to remember that the talks were conducted between me and Academician Denkov, because the government is “Denkov – Gabriel”. Every single minister who has found his place in this government has been approved by both of them.” This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Gabriel on the occasion of the words of the co-chairman of “We continue the change” Kiril Petkov that the Minister of the Interior Kalin Stoyanov is nomination of GERB-SDS.
“I think it is very important in such situations to look at what we would like to be done, and I understand very clearly today that both the Minister of Internal Affairs, myself and Prime Minister Acad. Denkov show zero tolerance for violence,” said Gabriel. She emphasized that both the Home Secretary, the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister were saying “congratulations to the police who have done a good job, but clarity, analysis and accountability for those who have gone beyond their powers”.
“What’s more: all three of us say no to any violence against Bulgarian citizens. That’s why we are a legal state, that’s why we have fundamental principles”, added the Deputy Prime Minister.
According to Gabriel, in the context in which Bulgaria is fighting in every possible way, until the last minute, to be a member of the Schengen area, having a Minister of the Interior and a Ministry of the Interior, which shows extremely solid and convincing results on this topic, is very important to succeed to single out individual situations, clearing the details where there is tension in order to move forward.
“I think that, as the prime minister said, we are going in the right direction. Therefore, any debate returning to the past does not allow us to go boldly, convincingly and with clear principles towards the future”, stressed the Deputy Prime Minister.
Gabriel concluded that at this moment it is important to remain very objective, pragmatic and to think about what is good for Bulgaria and the Bulgarian citizens.
