Antoineta Stefanova was very happy after our national team won the title of the Budva European Chess Championship.
“I can not believe. It was very tiring. I won my game, but then we had to wait for Geri’s match, but she didn’t just save the game, she won it,” Stefanova said.
“For the first time in 20 years, chess is so popular in Bulgaria. I am very happy with the girls, we have a great team. Thanks to those who helped us to be here and achieve this result. Thank you for this wild card that was given to us to be here. I think we are on the right track. We did not expect such quick success. This is an incredible generation of female athletes – Salimova, Peycheva, Krasteva, and there are also 2-3 other girls who are not here,” she shares.
“We have been fighting for many years to regain the position of Bulgarian chess and I am glad that we are finally achieving results. We still have a lot of work to do, but I’m sure with this team, with these leaders, with these sponsors, we will achieve good things,” Stefanova added to the official channel of the tournament.
