On today’s World Children’s Day, iconic buildings around the world will be lit up in blue, the color of the United Nations (UN) Children’s Fund. According to tradition in Bulgaria, this will be the National Palace of Culture in Sofia, UNICEF Bulgaria announced.
International Children’s Day commemorates the adoption in 1989 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history.
According to UN data, today 400 million children, or about one child in five, live in conflict zones or are fleeing them. The organization has verified more than 315,000 serious violations of children’s rights in conflict-affected areas between 2005 and 2022, the press release said.
