The national Ivan Donchev ranked 26th in the 500 meter sprint at the Short Track World Cup in Montreal (Canada). Asen Gyurov is 32nd and Maksim Maksimov finished 39th.
Donchev overcame the quarter-final repechages by judge’s decision after finishing third in the fourth heat with 1:02.126 minutes. In the semi-finals, he placed fourth in the first heat with a 1:07.974 and took 26th position in the final standings.
Gyurov placed second in the first heat of the quarterfinal repechages with 43.112 seconds, and Maksimov was third in the third heat with 42.500 seconds.
In the second start of the men’s 1,000 meters, Stefan-Alexander Kyumurdzhiev placed 39th, after finishing fourth in heat two with 1:31.804 minutes, and only the winners and the maximum five with the best second time continue to the semi-final repechages .
In the first start of the men’s 1,000 meters, Ji-Won Park (Republic of Korea) became the champion with 1:24.903 minutes. The women’s race was won by American Kristen Santos-Griswold in 1:31.288 minutes, in a rather strange finish in which the other four competitors crashed during the run.
In the first round of the Short Track World Cup in Montreal, the four Bulgarian men are taking part, and for the second start again in Canada next week, the best Bulgarian athlete in the women’s category, Katrin Manoilova, will participate.
