School principals to get access to an electronic register of drug dealers in our country, so that they can carry out checks in case of suspicion. The possibilities for the implementation of such an idea were discussed during the regular meeting of the coordination mechanism for the fight against the import, production and distribution of drugs in Bulgaria. Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov also took part in it.
“All registers related to the topic of narcotics can be indicated as a priority for electronicization,” e-Government Minister Aleksandar Iolovski suggested in connection with changes to the e-Government Act that came into force recently. They stipulate that by March 31, 2025, the administrative bodies will bring the registers they keep into electronic form. For this purpose, a schedule will be prepared, which will be adopted by a decree of the Council of Ministers by the end of October this year.
The state will encourage parents, teachers and students to report drug use or distribution at school. To keep these people safe, reports will be made anonymously. It will be further specified on which channel. Among the possibilities are the National telephone line for children 116 111, which is administered by the State Agency for Child Protection, the creation of a special mobile application or a separate email address.
The Ministry of Education and Science (MES) continues to collect all available materials on the subject of drugs – information brochures, videos, films, methodical guides, programs for working with students, etc., which can be of help to pedagogical specialists and parents. The experts have yet to decide which of them should be included in the so-called “digital backpack” – the bank of electronic educational resources. The MES is also ready with a project of a mechanism to prevent the use and distribution of drugs in schools and increase the capacity of pedagogical specialists on the subject.
Experts from the Ministry of the Interior have developed a project for a national campaign for the prevention of the distribution and use of narcotic substances and their analogues among adolescents with a period of validity of 2023-2024. It summarizes the programs of the various institutions, the aim of which is to find the points of contact between them.
