The prosecutor general’s investigation mechanism now applies to his deputies. This came after MPs explicitly wrote this into the Judiciary Act, the amendments of which were voted by Parliament in the second reading.
This is the third amendment to the texts adopted at the beginning of June. The reason for them was the opinion of the procurator’s collegium that there is no express provision indicating that the elected ad hoc magistrate to check reports against the chief prosecutor can also do so for his deputies.
A judge has been elected under the mechanism, but so far she could not be appointed. The ad hoc prosecutor will have to check a report against Borislav Sarafov, submitted while he was Ivan Geshev’s deputy.
Deputies finally rejected the idea of withdrawing the national investigation from the prosecutor’s office. This happened after the president vetoed these amendments, the deputies accepted it, but they had to put the “Revival” proposals to a vote again. They were rejected.
