The manager of the English “Leeds” Daniel Farke had to answer a question about the new addition Ilia Gruev at the press conference before the visit of “Southampton” on Saturday. The match at St. Mary’s Stadium at 2:30 p.m. is from the 9th round of the Championship (II level of football on the Island).
“For every player it is something completely different when he comes to the “mother” of English football. The physical exertion here cannot be compared to any other place. Ilia is a top player. I’m impressed with him,” said Farke.
The German coach attracted Gruev at the end of last month from Werder Bremen. As the coach of “Borussia” (Mönchengladbach) in the 2022/2023 season, Farke had the opportunity to monitor the performances of the Bulgarian national team in the Bundesliga. His assessment led to Leeds paying €6.5 million to Werder Bremen for the 23-year-old midfielder.
So far, Farke has put Gruev on the field 2 times at the end of matches won by “Leeds” by 3:0.
Understandably, the Bulgarian needs time to adapt to both the team and the new league.
The compliment from Farke should mean that the Leeds manager is happy with what the midfielder has been showing in training.
