“Mini Maritsa East” is protesting because of the cabinet’s decision to accept the plans for the coal areas, which decide the fate of the industry. The government plans to approve the documents at an extraordinary meeting at 3pm on Friday.
The protesters will block roads and key points in the country – Prohoda na republika in Gurkovo, AM “Trakia” in the Stara Zagora area, the Stara Zagora – Haskovo road and the Galabovo – Dimitrovgrad road. The intersection near the village of Dragichevo on the main road E-79 between Sofia and Pernik.
The union leaders from the state mines and TPP “Maritsa Iztok 2” refused to meet with the government representatives who arrived in Radnevo to discuss the territorial plan for a just transition of Stara Zagora. They expelled the Deputy Minister of Energy, Krasimir Nenov, while in the meantime, at a closed meeting in the city, the Stara Zagorje MPs of “Vazrazhdane”, representatives of trade unions and local mayors discussed actions if the plan was approved in the version proposed by the cabinet.
