The “Semerjiev” case went to the second instance in the Sofia Court of Appeal. At the first hearing today, two witnesses were supposed to appear at the request of Semerdzhiev’s defense. However, they did not appear for questioning.
A sick leave was presented for one, the other was not found at the address, it became clear in the courtroom. The prosecutor’s office requested that the women be deleted from the list of witnesses on the grounds that, according to the supervising prosecutor, Semerdzhiev’s defense “derailed the case” through them.
The lawyer of the defendant – Miroslav Hristov, stated before the court that he wants to question the two women in order to make it clear whether Semerdzhiev was driving the car and whether he caused the accident with two victims.
“Do not proceed with the case,” Georgi Semerdzhiev insisted before the court and the defendant. In the end, however, the court decided to proceed with the case.
Semerdzhiev was already sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Sofia City Court. The former football player was found guilty of the death of two girls in the accident on Cherni vrah boulevard, caused at 166 km per hour, with a fake driver’s license and with changed car plates.
The court appointed a new DNA examination in the “Semerjiev” case to establish the traces on the airbags in the car. The next meeting will be on November 2.
