China is seeking to overtake the US as the world’s leading power, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken believes.
“I think what he’s aiming for is to be a dominant power in the world — militarily, economically, diplomatically. This is what Xi Jinping is aiming for,” he said.
“And in a way it’s no surprise. China has an extraordinary history. I think if you look and listen to China’s leaders, they are seeking to restore what they believe is their rightful place in the world,” he said at an event organized by The Atlantic magazine.
“If there is a crisis in Taiwan caused by Chinese actions, there will be a global economic crisis. I think the message that China is hearing more and more often from countries around the world is: don’t fan the flames. We want – everyone wants – peace and stability, and everyone wants the status quo to be maintained,” Anthony Blinken also commented.
