What will the weather be like in October?
The upcoming October is shaping up to be near-normal temperatures and average rainfall. The month will start with temperatures much higher than usual for this time of the year, but then they will decrease – we expect a series of atmospheric disturbances to pass through the country.
In the mountains, it will be suitable for tourism, and at the sea, even for the last beaches along our Black Sea coast. The temperature of the sea water is still pleasant for bathing, from 22 to 24 degrees.
Average monthly temperatures in October are expected to be below normal, which is between 15 and 19 degrees for the plains, between 14 and 17 degrees for the highlands, and between 3 and 8 degrees for the mountains. The highest temperature during the month will reach 31-32 degrees, and the lowest will be around 5-6 degrees, and that towards the end of the month. There will also be conditions for snowfall, but on the mountains.
The monthly amount of precipitation will be between 45 and 70 l/sq.m for most of the country, between 70 and 90 l/sq.m in the southeastern regions, and 80 to 100 l/sq.m in the mountains. sq.m. – these values are normal for October.
By the end of the first week of October, the heat will be replaced by a series of cold fronts and temperatures will drop.
The weather during the first ten days of October
During the first ten days, temperatures are expected to be 2-5 degrees below the climatic norm. Temperatures will be lower in Eastern Bulgaria. Above the rest, the maximum temperatures will be between 24-32°С, and the minimum temperatures will be between 13-17°С, and they will be lower in the high plain fields in Western Bulgaria – up to 8-10°С. The morning temperatures along the Black Sea will be much higher – up to 10-12°С, and the maximum – from 23-24°С.
The month will start with dry weather, and in the lowlands and around water bodies, with fog. During the day it will be mostly sunny and relatively warm, and in the afternoon with scattered high clouds. We expect weak atmospheric disturbances over Eastern Bulgaria in the first days of October. Over the next few days, the weather will be dominated by high pressure. Temperatures will remain high, and in places around October 3-5 they will exceed 30°C.
We expect a change in circulation around October 5-9. Then a series of atmospheric disturbances will pass through the country from the northwest. Rainfall is expected, accompanied by thunder over Eastern Bulgaria.
The weather in the second ten days of October
In the first days of the second ten days of October, the weather will be mostly cloudy and rainy. We also expect a series of atmospheric disturbances and lower temperatures. A more sensitive cooling is expected in the mountains, where light snow will fall at a lower altitude.
By the end of the second ten days of October, it remains windy and temperatures will slowly drop. The expected maximum temperatures by the end of the second ten days will be between 12-18 °C. The minimums will be lower, as in the plains and mountainous regions even below 5°C.
After October 13, the wind from the northwest will weaken and fog will form around the river basins in the morning hours. The lack of wind also creates conditions for air pollution around industrial areas.
On October 14-18, slightly cooler air will penetrate from the northeast, daytime temperatures will drop significantly and will be below 12-14°C. According to the data of the climate models, the probability of the formation of Mediterranean cyclones is much greater in this period. We expect precipitation from rain, and above 1400-1600 meters – from snow. The morning will be cold with frosty conditions in the western fields. Fogs are also possible, which will dissipate after 10-12 hours.
The weather in the third ten days of October
As of the date of creation of the forecast (26.09.), most climate models predict that towards the end of the month our strange one will fall under the influence of a series of cyclones passing through the Balkan Peninsula, but before the bad weather in the first days of the third ten-day period we will enjoy pleasant autumn temperatures and relatively dry weather. Temperatures will rise and will be between 14-20°C.
