Romania will challenge Austria’s veto in the European Court of Justice regarding the country’s accession to the Schengen area and will ask the European institutions – the European Parliament, the European Council and the European Commission – to side with Romania in any legal dispute. This was stated for the second time this week by the Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.
“All these European institutions supported and gave their consent for Romania to join the Schengen area. See you then, Mr. Chancellor. I understand that you like boxing – let me see how you will react when all the European institutions join Romania in this attack in the Court of the EU”, said the Prime Minister in an interview with Digi24.
He reiterated that Austria had abused its right of veto and that Romania had been waiting ten years to enter Schengen.
Cholaku also discussed the topic with Klaus Iohannis, BTA reported.
“Have you ever seen a movie with only good cops or only bad cops?” There’s always a good cop and a bad cop, there’s always black and white. I have a dialogue with the President of Romania, especially when it comes to foreign and defense policy – the President of Romania is the supreme commander of the army – it is imperative that this dialogue be institutional, whether we love each other or not,” the Prime Minister said.
