The Royal “Polo Club” in Barcelona will host the finals of the Cup of Nations – the most prestigious team competition in equestrian show jumping, which BNT 3 will broadcast live this Sunday at 16:00.
The Nations Cup, a competition with a 111-year history, was held for the first time in 1909. A trophy that every nation wants to lift, cementing their superiority in the team competition. Ten competitions across Europe, the Middle East, North and Central America took place this season to determine the 15 finalist teams in Barcelona.
The last competition was in August in Dublin in the European First Division. It was won by Switzerland for the first time in 40 years. The Swiss became first in the final ranking ahead of Ireland and Great Britain.
A total of 15 teams from 5 continents will participate in the finals – Spain as the host, another 8 teams from the European League, 2 from North America – USA and Mexico, as well as Brazil, Argentina, Australia and Uzbekistan.
In addition to this, we will also see competitors from 3 more nations who will compete individually, including the world leader Henrik von Eckermann.
The Belgian team, which has triumphed 3 times in the last 8 years, will defend its title from last year.
The favorites are Switzerland, Ireland and the unpredictable Americans. The competition is also an Olympic qualification for those who do not yet have visas for Paris.
