Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov announced in the morning block of BTV that the political and professional leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MI) “categorically stands behind the professional decision” of the policeman who shot 18-year-old Svetlio Mladenov with a pistol a few days ago.
As the first argument for the use of firearms, Stoyanov pointed out that there was evidence that Mladenov had committed a robbery. His second argument was that Mladenov and several other people threatened their victims with firearms. Thirdly, according to the minister, the police officer used the weapon after repeatedly giving verbal warnings to Mladenov to stop running. Moreover, according to Kalin Stoyanov, the policeman shot at Mladenov after firing two warning shots.

“He followed all the instructions and protocols for action in such cases,” assured the interior minister, and added that the policeman would have been administratively responsible only for using his personal weapon, because it was a violation of the rules.
According to Kalin Stoyanov, a policeman could carry three weapons if necessary. The experts on the case of the murder of Svetlio Mladenov, however, were not yet ready to draw final conclusions, noted the Minister of the Interior.
Car confiscation is definitely working, the minister said. Since impounding cars for certain blood alcohol content of drivers was introduced, cases have dropped dramatically, he said.
For migrants and sewers
According to Kalin Stoyanov, the percentage of Bulgarians engaged in channel management has significantly decreased. On the other hand, the Ministry of Internal Affairs registers citizens from Romania, Ukraine and Moldova who try to transport migrants through Bulgaria.
“The migrant pressure has been very high in recent months. I will also give you an example – from the beginning of the year until now, we have had 156,000 attempts to illegally cross the Bulgarian border. For this period last year, they were 100,000,” the internal Minister. He clarified that the measures taken to protect the border are already yielding results.
