Tanya Gateva is the new coach of the Bulgarian women’s national team, the Governing Council of the Bulgarian Basketball Federation decided today at its meeting.
Stefan Mihailov, the previous head coach of the team, also applied for the position.
Gateva spent the last seven years in the women’s team of Beroe Stara Zagora, with which she won a number of trophies.
In her coaching career, she also worked with 2 September 97, Champion 2006, Levski and Slavia, leading many youth teams at club and national level.
In 2019, she won the European title in Division “B” with the Bulgarian U20 women’s team, for which she was chosen as coach #1 of the year in our country, becoming the first woman with this award.
Tanya Gateva’s first matches at the head of the women’s national team will be in November in the qualifiers for EuroBasket 2025, where Bulgaria is in a group with Slovenia, Hungary and Finland.
