Bulgarians Simon Antoni Ivanov and Alexander Vassilev qualified for the second round of singles at the ITF men’s clay tournament in Pazardzhik with a prize fund of 40 thousand dollars. The competition started with very good organization and conditions on the courts of TC “Favourit”.
Simon Antoni Ivanov outplayed Romanian qualifier Dragos Konstantin Ignat 6:2, 6:2, and 16-year-old Alexander Vasilev eliminated Dimitris Sakellaridis of Greece 6:1, 7:5 in the match between the two teenagers participating with “wild cards”.
At the same time, another 16-year-old native talent, Viktor Kirov, made his debut in the men’s competition, but the wild card Bulgarian lost to #4 Greek Stefanos Sakellaridis 2:6, 2:6.
Eight more Bulgarians are yet to start in the singles main draw in Pazardzhik tomorrow, among them the nationals Alexander Donski and Yanaki Milev, Gabriel Donev, Anthony Genov, the qualifiers Mikhail Ivanov, Nikola Kolyachev and Plamen Milushev and the “wild card” George Lazarov.
The doubles competition starts later today, and a total of 12 Bulgarian tennis players will participate in it.
