The Sevilla side, who have had a difficult start in the Spanish Football League, secured a comfortable 5-1 victory over the looming underdogs Almeria in the first leg of the 7th round. Sevilla, who won the Europa League last season, have been at the bottom of the table so far. But today at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium they scored five goals and all through different players.
Already in the 7th minute, Loic Bade received a cross from the sides, shot a header, but sent the ball into the crossbar. However, Youssef En Nesiri was the fastest at the rebound and put it into the net.
Not a minute had passed and the defending Europa League champions had doubled their lead, Dodi Lucebacchio firing the ball into the top right corner, finishing off an excellent individual attack.
Shortly before the end of the first half, Jose Luis Mendilibar’s players practically put an end to the dispute after taking a 3-0 lead. The goal came in the 38th minute and its author was Suso, who received the ball from Djibril Sou and punished the disoriented defense of the visitors.
After the break, Sevilla’s goal gala continued. Adria Pedrosa sent the ball to Erik Lamela. He tapped her lightly, she deflected into a defender and beat goalkeeper Luis Maximiano.
Then 4:0 the home team slowed down and Almeria got a respectable goal from the penalty spot. Belgian Lagri Ramazani was brought down in the penalty area and Luis Suarez converted the penalty. And in overtime there was time for another goal. Quique Salas, after an excellent cross from Juanlu Sanchez, made the final score 5:1.
It made Sevilla unbeaten for the fourth time in a row in all competitions, but their form does not inspire optimism ahead of this weekend’s derby against Barcelona.
