Five Bulgarians are due to appear in court in London today to be formally charged with several charges, including espionage, allegedly for the benefit of Russia.
Last week it was confirmed that Orlin Rusev was considered the leader of the group, which also included Biser Jambazov, Katrin Ivanova, Ivan Stoyanov and Vanya Gaberova.
After the BBC exclusively reported on the case and described several details, it is possible that more facts will become public today if the court decides to give them publicity.
Westminster Magistrates’ Court has to decide if and when to proceed with the case against them, and according to British media, the usual time frame for this is that perhaps the beginning will be in January 2024 – nearly a year after the searches and their detention.
In recent days, the British media has been busy with the 29-year-old Gaberova, who since 2019 has a beauty salon Pretty Woman in West London.
Conversations with her clients show her avoiding commenting on anything related to politics and claiming she does not know who is the leader of Russia. “I’m only interested in beautification,” she often said, shrugging her shoulders when they tried to get her talking about the war in Ukraine or British political issues. “She’s the last person you’d think was a spy,” says one of her clients.
