“The church should be opened urgently so that the laity can enter inside. You know that it is entirely within the framework of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church to organize the process. Yesterday I had a meeting with representatives of the Holy Synod – I said that everything that is needed by the state, we will provide it. But we cannot interfere directly in the process. The notary deed and the legal issues with the property have yet to be analyzed.”
This was commented by the Prime Minister Academician Nikolay Denkov on the occasion of the tension that arose around the incident with the closure of the Russian Church in Sofia and the expulsion of the Russian priests in it, who were found guilty of espionage. According to the prime minister, the church must remain open, and that is precisely why the Patriarch created the necessary organization.
