A man, who had taken up residence in a municipal apartment in the capital’s “Slatina” district, barricaded himself in it and threatened to set himself on fire. Witnesses of the incident said that they saw him dousing himself with gasoline, NOVA reported.
More than a year ago, the 42-year-old man and his brother illegally settled in a house that is municipally owned.
In the early afternoon today, employees of the Metropolitan Municipality went to take them out of the building. One brother, seeing the officers, became aggressive and locked himself inside.
Thus, the intervention of the police was necessary. After more than 2 hours, deploying snipers and blocking the neighborhood, the police managed to enter the apartment building through its back entrance and neutralize the man with an electric shock. He is detained.
The municipality stated that the building illegally occupied by the men was provided by decision of the Metropolitan Municipal Council for use by a foundation, which has not been able to enter for months because of people who have moved in.
The man who was taken out is currently in a psychiatric clinic because of his deteriorating condition.
