The businessman has 19 charges, already questioned
The National Revenue Agency has lifted liens for BGN 49,634,300 imposed on 30 companies of the accused gambling businessman Vasil Bozhkov. This is clear from documents in the Commercial Register. In fact, the largest guarantees were from “Agro Capital 2009” – BGN 44,800,400, and “Vabo 2017” for BGN 2,680,000.
The liens have been canceled since the beginning of August after an audit by the tax authorities. It turned out that Bozhkov had no obligations to the treasury. However, according to commercial law lawyers, the businessman will not be able to dispose of the companies. The reason is that the capital of a large part of the companies in question remains frozen by the anti-corruption commission KPCONPI because of a criminal case against it.
At the moment, Bozhkov is under house arrest in one case and with a bail of BGN 500,000 in another trial. The businessman came home to us on August 25. Initially, the court left him in custody, but the second instance considered that Bozhkov could also be under house arrest. On his Facebook profile, he published a decree of a prosecutor from the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office and claimed that it provides him with immediate protection, as well as for his wife Elena Dineva and his son Anton. Bozhkov claims that he testified, after which he was made a protected witness, and his life and that of his relatives were greatly threatened.
However, the prosecution denies that the businessman is a protected witness. He has security, but protected witness status is something different. In such cases, his identity is kept secret, he is interrogated in a special room and is known only by a number. Bozhkov is a clear witness. He testified in the investigation about bribes he claimed to have given to representatives of the “Borisov 3” cabinet – to Borisov himself, to his finance minister Vladislav Goranov and to the cabinet’s publicist Sevdelina Arnaudova. Bozhkov was questioned during the trial and at the moment the supervising prosecutor has judged that the testimony is sufficient and there is no need for further action with the businessman.
Bozhkov himself is accused in 3 cases and has 19 more charges. The main one is for tax crimes, with which he damaged the budget by more than 600 million BGN. There is also a case against him for incitement to murder of several people, according to which Bozhkov is free on bail of BGN 500,000. Along with Bozhkov, his wife Elena Dineva is accused. She even spent 8 months in custody, which is the maximum term of detention, without an indictment filed in court. Dineva was even released on bail of BGN 1 million, but she preferred to wait for the remaining 17 days to pass until the end of the 8 months and thus go free.
