Defense Minister Todor Tagarev supported Atanas Atanasov’s request for the resignation of the chairman of DANS.

“Government officials, be they heads of agencies, should not allow themselves political assessments and attacks,” he stressed.
Tagarev did not agree with the idea of merging the services, which is proposed by Atanas Atanasov.
“There is always an opportunity for employees to be improved. A merger of two organizations without a preliminary analysis is not acceptable,” the Minister of Defense believes.
He also gave a specific example from the last few hours with what was happening in Kosovo, where he communicated simultaneously with the intelligence and the military. “I can’t imagine how this could happen outside the MoD.” Maybe my imagination is limited, but I can’t imagine it,” said Tagarev.
“It is not known whether the drone with ammunition near Tyulenovo is Ukrainian. But it was probably not purposeful that he ended up on Bulgarian territory. It is probably an accident,” the defense minister also told bTV.
He also commented on the method of disposal of the ammunition, drawing attention to the fact that the sapper in a tank top acted correctly.
“He was wearing a wetsuit bottom. It was decided that way firstly because the temperature conditions do not require it and secondly – without this upper part he has more freedom of action. The assessment was completely correct and the way he acted was correct,” said Tagarev.
He specified that disposal of such ammunition happens weekly and for the Bulgarian army it is a routine procedure. Tagarev added that he did not say that drones are destroyed every week.
Regarding the lit cigarette near the drone with ammunition, the Minister of Defense commented that smoking next to a mechanical detonator has nothing to do with safety.
“The work of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in such cases is to isolate the area, and for the army team to destroy the ammunition in the safest way possible. Smoking in this case with a mechanical detonator has nothing to do with safety. The thing to realize here is that this team is under enormous stress, and who and how they deal with the stress is a very personal matter. I personally would not look for the reasons in the person who lit a cigarette in these stressful conditions. Yes, it doesn’t look good, but the most important thing is that there are no casualties and destruction,” said Tagarev.
