Grigor Dimitrov reached the semifinals of the ATP 250 series tournament in Chengdu, China. The Bulgarian defeated Christopher O’Connell from Australia in two sets 6:4, 6:1.
The former world No. 3 prevailed over his rival in one hour and 25 minutes.
This is the third time in 2023 that the Bulgarian has reached the semifinals of an ATP tournament.
In the next round, he will meet top seed Alexander Zverev in Chengdu. This will be the fourth match between Dimitrov and the German in 2023, with Zverev winning the previous three.
In the overall balance, Dimitrov has only one win and six losses against Zverev.
“I am a person who loves tennis and to a certain extent it can be said that I live for it. This achievement is not among the most important things for me, but at the same time I do everything possible for the benefit of the sport,” Dimitrov said before game after recording career win #400 a day earlier.
“When you treat yourself like that and you win, the accomplishments add up. It’s definitely been a success for me, even though I never set out to get, like, 300 or 500 wins. You never know how things are going to go, but I’ve been in Toura for 14 years now and it’s wonderful to receive such recognition for the work done”.
