“We were all waiting to see the GERB candidate. A second round of the elections is expected in Sofia. What we are seeing is a general candidate profile aimed at expanding electoral support for GERB.” Such a comment was made on Nova News by Dimitar Ganev from the Research Center “Trend” on the occasion of Anton Hekimyan’s candidacy for mayor of Sofia from GERB.
“With a rather party candidate, you can hardly count on support from other political forces. The two largest electorates, which will not have a representative in the second round, will be the BSP and “Vazrazhdane”, Ganev said.
According to him, PP-DB and GERB-SDS want to attract more voters with a non-party figure as a candidate.
Ganev stated that Hekimyan’s professional path brings a great positive, but also a liability.
“It gives him complete recognition among people, which is important for any candidate. The audience has yet to be introduced to him. The downside is that questions will be asked throughout the campaign about how a TV executive could be nominated all of a sudden. That is, was there any relationship between the political party and the media during those years. We are yet to hear the answers to these questions,” said Dimitar Ganev.
