The basketball team of Chernomorets defeated Levski 72:70 (16:19, 17:11, 17:21, 22:19) in a control match played in the “Triaditsa” hall in Sofia. The two teams are preparing for the start of the new season in the Men’s National Basketball League (NBL).
For the winner of the Cup of Bulgaria Levski, the match was a dress rehearsal for the battle for the Super Cup of the country against the champion Balkan on October 1 in Botevgrad. Among the audience in the hall was the head coach of Balkan Petar Zlatanovich in the company of his assistant Vasil Hristov.
Levski’s basketball players started better and led with 19:16 after the first quarter. The guests equalized at the beginning of the second half and in the next 3 minutes turned the score to 26:21 in their favor. The contested game continued, the “blues” briefly took the lead again after a 6:0 run at 27:26, but Chernomorets regained the lead and had a 33:30 lead at the break.
An equal third quarter followed, in which the two teams exchanged the lead, and before the last 10 minutes, Levski was leading with 51:50. The home team took a 6-point lead at 60:54, but Burgas quickly equalized at 60:60 six minutes before the end of the game. Chernomorets led by 4 points – 67:63 with less than three minutes remaining and did not lose the initiative until the end.
The top scorer for the winners was Travis McConico with 20 points, and for Levski Alex Simeonov, who currently leads the “blue” team, finished with 14 points.
Hristo Zahariev missed the match for Chernomorets due to an ankle injury.
