Wrestler Semen Novikov managed to win a bronze medal for Bulgaria at the World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade, overcoming a serious injury received in the semi-final. The native national gritted his teeth to prevail over Azer Islam Abbasov 6:3 in the small final of the 87-kilogram classics.
Bronze for Semen Novikov from the World Wrestling Championships
Novikov, who has been competing for Bulgaria since the beginning of the year, won a second award for our country, after earlier winning bronze at the European Championship. Now he managed to secure a quota for the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
Olympic quota for Paris 2024
This is also the only quota for Bulgaria won during the World Wrestling Championship in Belgrade. Our country ends the world championship with three medals, as Mimi Hristova (65) and Ramazan Ramazanov (70) also won bronze medals in the non-Olympic categories.
Next year, two more Olympic qualifications will be held, in which Bulgarian athletes will have the opportunity to obtain quotas for Paris 2024.
