Another canoe-kayak regatta for the “Black Sea” cup was held during the weekends on the basis of the club of the same name in Varna. More than 50 competitors took part in the race in the waters of Lake Varna.
The canoe-kayak competition for the Black Sea Cup is being held for the fifth year in a row.
“The idea of the event is to show, because our sport was in collapse slightly, to show that the sport exists. People should start getting to know it, because it is one of the most successful sports in Bulgaria on a national scale, and also in Varna we have quite a few outstanding competitors”, said Alexander Grigorov, chairman of the “Black Sea – Breeze Canoe-Kayak” SC.
From tourist to national competitors, they entered the race, which was divided into three stages: men’s, juniors and children’s single kayak, women’s and girls’ single kayak and men’s junior and children’s single canoe.
“Canoe-kayaking is one of the sports in Varna, which has a very long history. We have Olympic and Vice-Olympic champions. We have a long tradition, so this sport is one of the main ones and we as a municipality support it, of course”, said Christian Dimitrov, director of the “Sports” Directorate, Municipality of Varna.
