More than 6 million and 48 thousand voters are included in the preliminary lists for the local elections on October 29, the CEC announced.
Spokesperson Rositsa Mateva explained where the discrepancy between the population census data and the people appearing on the voting lists comes from:
“The population census covers only the Bulgarian citizens who, on the date of the relevant census, were found at the addresses where the census was conducted or who wished to be counted online. And the voter lists and information from GRAO covers all Bulgarian citizens who have a permanent address on the territory of the respective municipality,” she said.
A reference to the addresses of the voting sections can be made through the GRAO website, as well as by phone at the number 0800 1 4726, free of charge throughout the country.
There is still no decision on how voters will declare their desire to vote. The public procurement contractor for the software will offer at least two options, Mateva added:
“The requirement of the CEC is that the voter should not at the very beginning determine in which and in how many of the types of elections he will vote, he should be able to return and change his choice. How it will happen in practice, we will find out after the negotiations are held and the contract is concluded.”
