GERB’s candidate for mayor of Plovdiv is Kostadin Dimitrov, party leader Boyko Borisov announced during a press conference in the city.
Dimitrov is currently the mayor of Plovdiv’s Trakia district. “At first glance, a quiet and silent person, which is perhaps a virtue nowadays, but a very good worker,” praised Borisov.
“We continue the change” and “Democratic Bulgaria” will participate together in the local vote, without Peikov in the mayoral race in Plovdiv
At the briefing in Plovdiv, the names of the GERB candidates for regional mayors and municipal councilors were announced.
Borisov refused to announce who the party’s candidate for mayor of Sofia will be. “I will announce the candidate for mayor of Sofia when I go to the capital,” he was irritated by the question.
He addressed the people of Plovdiv, noting that “there is something to compare the last three years with”, bearing in mind that GERB has not ruled the country since then (actually, GERB stepped down in May 2021, and since June 2023 it has also part of the government of the state – note ed.) and that if the citizens of Plovdiv do not choose Dimitrov, their choice will be for the weaker government of Plovdiv, similar to the government of the state.
“For the last three years, nothing from the state for Plovdiv,” stressed Borisov, pointing out that while he was prime minister, he had done a lot for the city, unlike those who ruled the state after him.
He boasted that in the past years, GERB had done a lot for the development not only of Plovdiv, but also of other cities in the country, with its emphasis on sports facilities, including the stadiums of the private football clubs “Botev” and “Lokomotiv”, as well as the “Kolodruma” hall in Plovdiv, and all three projects are surrounded by questions from the point of view of the expediency and legality of the use of public resources.
Kostadin Dimitrov also began his presentation by pointing out the many sports halls built during the time of GERB, specifying that he is also the vice president of the Bulgarian Taekwondo Federation. According to his words, as regional mayor, he tried to solve many problems of “Trakia”, which did not depend on him, by listing the cleanliness, landscaping, and it was very difficult for him to pray to the large municipality of Plovdiv to solve these problems.
Kostadin Dimitrov has been the mayor of Trakia for three terms – since 2011. Before that, he worked as a deputy mayor in the “Central” district and in the private sector.
