The market price index (MPI), which reflects the movement of wholesale food prices in Bulgaria, rose again this week – by 0.992 percent to 2.205 points, BTA reported.
The level of ITC at the beginning of the year was 2,316 points, and in the first third of March it reached its spring maximum of 2,480 points. The base level of the ITC – 1,000 points – is from 2005.

An increase in the price of basic foodstuffs and most fruits and vegetables, which are tracked by the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Markets (DKSBT), was observed during the week.
How much do fruits and vegetables go up in price?
Imported apples rose in price by 3.4 percent to BGN 2.10 per kilogram. The price of bananas remains unchanged from last week and they are traded at BGN 2.76 per kilogram. Watermelons rose in price by 1.2 percent to BGN 0.87 per kilogram, and melons by 4 percent to BGN 1.57 per kilogram.
Only lemons are cheaper – by 5 percent to BGN 2.88 per kilogram and grapes – by 4.1 percent to BGN 2.33 per kilogram.

Potatoes increased their value by 2.3 percent to BGN 1.35 per kilogram, cabbage by 2.7 percent to BGN 1.14 per kilogram.
The price of tomatoes (greenhouse) also rose – by 7.4 percent to BGN 3.05 per kilogram, as well as greenhouse cucumbers – by 12.5 percent to BGN 2.98 per kilogram. Green peppers rose in price by 9.2 percent to BGN 1.78 per kilogram, and red peppers fell in price by 10.8 percent to BGN 1.99 per kilogram. Carrots are sold by 2.5 percent less to BGN 1.18 per kilogram, and ripe onions (import) – by 5.3 percent to BGN 1.42 per kilogram.
Dairy foods
Cow’s cheese became cheaper by a minimum of 0.4 percent to BGN 11.14 per kilogram, and “Vitosha” cheese increased in price, also minimally, by 0.3 percent and was sold at BGN 17.36 per kilogram.

Yogurt milk (3 and over 3 percent fat content) increased in price by 7.4 percent and a bucket of 400 g is bought for BGN 1.16. The price of fresh milk (3 percent fat content) also increased – by 4.3 percent and is sold at BGN 2.19 per liter.
The chicken and the eggs
Chicken meat increased in price by 1.4 percent and is available at BGN 6.50 per kilogram, eggs (size M) – by 3.1 percent and are bought at BGN 0.33 per piece wholesale.
The price of rice rises – by 2.6 percent and it is traded at BGN 3.21 per kilogram. The price of lentils increases – by 0.7 percent to BGN 4.10 per kilogram, as well as ripe beans – by 0.8 percent to BGN 3.95 per kilogram.
The sugar and the oil
Sugar became cheaper by 0.4 percent and was sold at BGN 2.43 per kilogram. Type 500 flour increased in price by 0.7 percent to BGN 1.45 per kilogram. The price of oil has increased by 1 percent and it is traded at BGN 3.00 per liter in a plastic bottle, and cow’s butter (125 gram packet) by 1.6 percent to BGN 2.59 per unit .
