The co-chairman of “Democratic Bulgaria” gen. Atanas Atanasov demanded the resignation of the chairman of the National Security Agency (DANS) Plamen Tonchev, taking a cue from yesterday’s position of the counterintelligence service, in which comments by the co-chairman of “We continue the change” Kiril Petkov were called “incompetent and untrue”.

“This office, through its chairman, is heavily politicized, takes political positions. The chairman of DANS is making a political statement for the second time. One of the principles by which DANS must function, and this is written in the law, is political neutrality. None of this service has no right to take a political position, let alone do so publicly. This is absolutely unacceptable,” insisted Atanasov, who recently resigned as chairman of the parliamentary committee for control of the services after his proposed reform of the services was rejected by the GERB participating in the management, as well as from the DPS.
He noted that there is a possibility that he will return to the post if there are guarantees that the proposed changes in the services will lead to a concrete result.
In connection with the expulsion of the head of the Russian church in Sofia and two more of its employees for espionage in favor of Russia, Atanasov commented that DANS knew very well that the head served the Russian intelligence in Sofia, but for five years “here they cover it up or they pretend not to see it,” referring to the Bulgarian counterintelligence service, echoing Kiril Petkov’s criticism of the case.
