The ambassador of our country in Bucharest, Radko Vlaikov, and the deputy of the Bulgarian minority in the Romanian parliament, Georgi Nakov, made a general call for the creation of a friendship group between Bulgaria and Romania in the Bulgarian parliament. This happened at a ceremony where the diplomat presented Georgi Nakov with a patent to extend his term as honorary consul in Timisoara. The event was also attended by people’s representatives from GERB, BSP, DPS and Vazrazhdane, who are in Bucharest for the Inter-Parliamentary Football Tournament organized by the Chamber of Deputies (the lower house of the Romanian Parliament).
“Bulgaria will count on you in the future. On a good path in the next four-year period”, our ambassador turned to Georgi Nakov, and he in turn stated:
“I was lucky to be born Bulgarian. I am a Banat Bulgarian from Star Beshenov – the largest village of the Banat Bulgarians, the main nucleus of the Banat Bulgarians, we have created our own diaspora in Bulgaria, in Burdarski Geran, in Dragomirovo, in Gostilya. We are there as one of the indirect consequences of the Chiprov uprising. My village was founded by my forefathers in March 1738. I have worked for the cause of the Bulgarians in Banat in particular and for the Bulgarians in Romania in general throughout my entire conscious life, starting at the age of 18. I will continue to work for my country”.
He added that he could also be useful as the chairman of the friendship group between the Romanian and Bulgarian parliaments. “I know that no such group has yet been created in the Bulgarian parliament, but I would be happy if any of you would join this friendship group. To be one group that works to achieve common goals”, Nakov addressed the Bulgarian MPs present.
According to him, Bulgaria and Romania must show that they are European countries, full members of the European Union and NATO and achieve what they deserve, namely to enter Schengen together. “I am convinced that this will happen,” Nakov added.
In this regard, Ambassador Vlaikov informed that two or three months ago he spoke with the Speaker of the Bulgarian National Assembly, Rosen Zhelyazkov, and asked him about the need to create a friendship group between Bulgaria and Romania as quickly as possible, writes BTA.
“There have been practically no contacts at this level in Bulgaria in the last two years”, noted the diplomat and in turn called on the present representatives to raise the issue at the presidential councils.
“It’s very quick to start, especially now, in the days and weeks before the Schengen decision. Such a format could have additional significance”, added Radko Vlaikov.
