Mathematics education up to the 7th grade in Bulgarian schools seems to have a problem. This comes from the data that the average result of those who appeared this year for the external assessment in mathematics is well below the average in the Bulgarian language. What’s more, the scissors are loosening compared to last year and a trend is emerging.
Whether or not today’s students will be dealing with complex calculations in their future careers, basic mathematical literacy is very important. Life increasingly overwhelms us with all kinds of data, and one must be able to analyze and compare them. It is important for me to make the right decisions.
In the global world, he will most likely have to compete with people educated in other countries, and this skill will be useful for him to be successful. Mathematics also builds logical thinking – also a super important quality in the digital age.
