The Bulgarian sumist Daniel Ivanov-Aoiyama won his bout from the 14th round of the Great September Tournament in Tokyo.
“Maegashira-14” Aoiyama handled “maegashira-8” Kotoeko to record his second straight and fifth win overall in the competition. The Bulgarian also has nine losses, and after today’s match, Kotoeko has a balance of 6-8.
The 37-year-old Ivanov, who has a height of 191 centimeters and a weight of 186 kilograms, applied the “kotenage” technique, with which he threw the 127-kilogram Kotoeko, who is one of the lightest competitors in the top sumo division, to the ground over his shoulder.
The Tokyo tournament concludes on Sunday, and Aoiyama will be looking for his sixth win against an opponent whose name will be revealed after all of today’s bouts are completed.
