Three security guards from Fidelity are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Friday after they were arrested in connection with a transit robbery.
Members of the Hawks’ investigation unit for serious and organized crime arrested the three suspects on Wednesday.
According to Capt. Christopher Singo, spokesman for the Hawks, was on his way to the Bloemfontein city center in a Fidelity money van on Tuesday to deliver cash, when a group of heavily armed attackers overtook them at McKenzie Street.
The robbers reportedly ordered the security officers to get out of the vehicle before using explosives to blow open the safe.
“The suspects robbed an unknown amount of money and three firearms from the security officers and fled the scene,” says Singo.
