The Minister of Electricity, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, will deliver an executive statement to the full session of the National Assembly (NA) on Thursday on the energy action plan and load shedding.
This follows his letter to the speaker of the NV, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Ngqakula, in which he asks for permission to address parliament. This is in terms of rule 133(1) of the National Assembly’s rules, regarding the energy action plan activities and short to medium term interventions to limit the intensity and frequency of load shedding.
Moloto Mothapo, spokesperson for the parliament, says the minister will focus with his statement on the crippling economic effects of load shedding, the performance of the installed Eskom capacity and interventions regarding the national energy crisis.
“Rule 133(1) states that a cabinet member can request the speaker for an opportunity for that cabinet member to make a factual or policy statement in relation to government policy, any executive action or other similar matter of which parliament should be informed,” says Mothapo .
