Melt Sieberhagen, the actor and comedian, won a whopping R250 000 on Wednesday evening in the kykNET game show, Who becomes a millionaire.
The comedian and actor, who recently appeared in the kykNET drama series Fraction was to be seen, together with other celebrities such as Tracey Lange, Je-Ani Swiegelaar, Lourensa Eckard, Ilse-Lee van Niekerk and David Johnson appeared in a special program in aid of charity.
Melt was able to choose a teammate halfway through the game and chose Lourensa, presenter of In conversation with Lourensa Eckard on kykNET, invited to play with him.
He ran through the questions at lightning speed, but finally had to give up at a quarter of a million rand when he didn’t know which country had never won an Olympic medal.
“In the words of Kenny Rodgers: ‘Know when to fold ’em’,” Melt said to Rian van Heerden, presenter of the programme. He donates this huge amount to the Gift of the Givers emergency loan organization.
This is the largest amount that a well-known personality has so far raised Who becomes a millionaire won.
“I have a lot of appreciation and respect for the work that Gift of the Givers does,” says Melt about his choice of charity.
He reveals that he likes quiz games and that he hoped he would do well. “I’m glad things worked out the way they did, but I’d rather win the R1 million!”
