The N4 near Vosman in Mpumalanga was closed on Wednesday due to violent protests.
Motorists wishing to travel to and from Emalahleni on the toll road are advised to use alternative routes.
According to reports, trucks are being looted, including near the KG Mall in the city. This causes further chaos down the road.
Moeti Mmusi, spokesperson for Mpumalanga’s Department of Community Safety, says the road is closed in both directions at this stage and traffic officers are diverting traffic to alternative routes.
The police are also monitoring the situation.
