A South African woman contacted her wedding photographer four years after the big day with an unusual request.
The woman demanded a refund because she and her husband divorced.
Lance Romeo, a photographer based in Sandton, shared screenshots of his conversation with the woman on social media. These posts provoked a great response.
Romeo initially thought someone was trying to pull his leg, but he later realized the woman was serious and assumed she was “entitled to a refund” because she was now divorced.
Of course, the photographer rejected her request.
“I swear my life is a movie. You can’t make this stuff up,” Romeo wrote when he shared posts of his conversation with the woman on Twitter.
In the screenshot, the woman writes: “I don’t know if you still remember me. You were the photographer at our wedding in Durban in 2019.” She goes on to write: “Well, I’m divorced now. And my ex-husband and I no longer need the photos. You did a great job, but now it’s a waste because we’re separated. I want a full refund of the money we paid, because we don’t need it anymore.”
Romeo initially thought the woman was playing a prank. Realizing she was serious, he politely declined her request.
However, the woman did not want to know anything. She threatened to involve lawyers in the case to reclaim at least 70% of the money. She also wanted to meet with Romeo in person, but the photographer simply requested that the lawyer contact him.
Romeo’s post went viral on Twitter.
The woman’s ex-husband himself contacted Romeo to apologize on behalf of the woman. “I read the articles. I apologize on her behalf.”
Users on social media naturally had a lot to say about these conversations.
“There’s no way she’s serious!” write one person.
“I love your polite response to her request. But this is someone playing a prank, right?” someone else writes. “Wow, this is wild. I know someone who got divorced before they got the wedding photos and even they didn’t demand a refund!”
Another user writes: “Romeo, this is the best story of the year. I laughed all afternoon at the impudence of the woman who wanted to sue you! This is a once-in-a-lifetime story. I hope you are successful with your photography. At least people know about you now!”
Meanwhile, Romeo let it be known that a lawyer had indeed contacted him, but himself laughed at his client’s request.
