A large-scale search was launched after the owner of the Pick n Pay on Bronkhorstspruit in Gauteng was kidnapped on Thursday evening.
Private investigator Mike Bolhuis confirmed to Rhewal that Juca Leonardo (55), a prominent and well-loved businessman in the town, was kidnapped. He says clues indicate that the kidnapping was well planned and executed.
Leonardo was last seen at his shop around 8:00 p.m.
According to BHS‑security on Bronkhorstspruit, Leonardo closed the shop as usual, after which he went home in his black Mercedes G Wagon.
“Security guards usually wait with Leonardo until he drives,” said BHS security.
At 20:16, a message came through on BHS‑security’s WhatsApp group that Leonardo’s vehicle was found abandoned at the T-junction at Versterpark. There were two bullet holes in the vehicle.
“Leonardo is thought to have been mugged there at the T-junction.”
Leonardo was wearing dark blue denim and a dark blue shirt, with the Pick n Pay logo, at the time of his disappearance.
Bolhuis says a task force with five investigating officers has been appointed to handle the investigation “privately and confidentially”. He asks that anyone with factual information call him on 082 447 6116 or send a WhatsApp message.
Rhewal has made inquiries to the police, but is still waiting for a response.
