Ford has launched the next generation of Ranger Super Cabs in South Africa with an exciting new specification headlining the range.
The model in question is the super cab Wildtrak – a trim level which was previously only available on the double-cab variants – and which offers an extensive list of features not found on most of its namesakes.
The range-topping super cab comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, a signature front grille, puddle lamps, automatic LED headlights and C-clamp daytime running lights, side steps, two front tow hooks, aluminium load box tie-down rails, and a drop-in bed liner with a 12V socket and 240V/400W outlet.
Furthermore, the interior is kitted out with distinctive eight-way, electronically-adjustable leather seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, an electronic park brake, an “E-Sport” gearshift, ambient lighting, USB Type-A and Type-C ports, overhead auxiliary switches, a wireless charger, a digital instrument cluster, and a 12-inch Sync4 infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and on-board navigation.
Safety offerings, meanwhile, comprise a 360-degree camera, active park assist, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitors with trailer coverage, rear cross-traffic alert, and autonomous emergency braking.
This is all on top of the existing gear found on the mid-range XLT models, such as six speakers, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry and start, a speed limiter, and front and rear parking sensors.
As for the engine, the super cab Wildtrak is equipped with a 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel unit capable of producing 154kW and 500Nm.
This is paired with a 10-speed automatic gearbox and selectable all-wheel drive, which results in a fuel consumption of 7.5l/100km.
With such a well-rounded package, it comes as little surprise that the Wildtrak has the fewest optional extras of all the super cabs.
In fact, there are only six items available, which are as follows:
- Plastic fuel tank guard on 4×4 models – R500
- Spare wheel lock – R1,120
- All-terrain tyres – R2,068
- Cargo management system – R2,767
- 20-inch aluminium wheels – R7,234
- Steel underbody protection on 4×2 models – R9,250
The new Ford Ranger Wildtrak super cab has a South African starting price of R772,800which is accompanied by a 4-year/120,000km warranty.
