Seven suspects were arrested in connection with the murder of the veteran writer and journalist Jeremy Gordin (70).
According to the Gauteng police, officers in collaboration with private security companies followed up on information that led them to the seven suspects, aged between 33 and 42.
“The first suspect was caught in Auckland Park in Johannesburg on Wednesday. He was apprehended in Gordin’s car, which was stolen on the night of the murder,” says the police statement.
Further investigations later that day led the police to the other six suspects.
“The suspects, who are all foreign nationals, are expected to appear in the magistrate’s court in Johannesburg soon on charges of murder, house robbery, possession of suspected stolen property and possession of an unlicensed firearm.”
Gordin was killed March 31 in his home in Parkview. His house was ransacked and his car and other items looted. He was home alone at the time of the incident.
Gordin’s wife, Deborah, was in Cape Town and could not get hold of Gordin that evening. She asked a family friend to check on her and that’s when the friend came across Gordin’s body.
Gordin’s bloodied body full of wounds was found on the floor in the house.
