The FF Plus insists that the Tshwane metro’s department for electrical services inspects all power poles in the metro area to prevent another massive power outage, such as has been experienced in Pretoria in the past few days.
Seven power towers gave way during a storm on Sunday evening and fell on the N4 highway in Pretoria. It left large parts of the city without power.
Rhewal used to report the incident is believed to be the result of repeated looting and vandalism. According to the Tshwane Metro, the towers were damaged by vandals who, among other things, stole steel from the structures.
Although power has already been restored to several neighborhoods, there are currently around 21 neighborhoods that are still in the dark.
“A disaster like this, together with load shedding, is devastating for the metro’s economy and for residents who suffered great damage,” says Awie Erasmus, FF Plus board member at the Tshwane metro.
“This must not happen again.”
