AfriForum’s private prosecution unit led by adv. Gerrie Nel has the preliminary findings of his investigation into the death of Willem Krugera young farmer from Groblersdal in Limpopo, shared with his family.
The investigation is still ongoing and therefore the unit did not want to comment on the nature of the findings on Thursday.
Barry Bateman, spokesperson for the private prosecution unit, did tell Rhewal that their findings were based on “objective facts” – facts that can be substantiated and proven.
“We are currently waiting for the green light from the family to release further information. However, the investigation has not yet been concluded. There are still a few things that should be included in the dossier,” said Bateman.
Kruger’s (29) father, Tiaan, approached the unit in February amid ongoing speculation and alleged irregularities regarding his son’s death at a rampage party at Henbase Lodge, near Morgenzon in Mpumalanga, last year.
Kruger disappeared without a trace in the early hours of the morning in November and his body was found a week later in his Toyota Hilux bakkie in the Vaal River, close to where he was last seen.
“The family was concerned that the investigation was not reaching a point and they approached our unit in the hope of finding resolution and reassurance,” said Bateman.
According to him, the unit has so far worked closely with the investigating officer in the case and they have studied all available evidence. Where there were ambiguities, the unit pointed them out and worked with the investigating officer to obtain the necessary information.
This information and evidence was analyzed by the unit and feedback was accordingly given to the family.
Brig. Selvy Mohlala, police spokesperson, told Rhewal earlier that according to the preliminary results of the post-mortem, Kruger’s death was a possible drowning. In the meantime, the police are continuing with his inquest.
Although there is much speculation that someone may be responsible for Kruger’s death and that the facts regarding his death are being covered up, no one has been arrested in connection with it.
