Four men have died after a conveyor belt at a mine in Balfour, Mpumalanga, is believed to have fallen.
According to Brig. Selvy Mohlala, police spokesperson, said the incident took place on Thursday around 11:45. Police have not released the name of the mine.
According to information, the conveyor belt is believed to have fallen and resulted in the death of four men.
“The police and rescue teams were called to the mine where they found the four deceased. “Two people sustained injuries and were taken to a hospital for further medical treatment,” said Mohlala.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet known and are being investigated. The identity of the deceased has also yet to be established.”
An inquest has been opened.
“More information about the incident will be made available as the investigation progresses.”
Lt. Gen. Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, the provincial police commissioner in Mpumalanga, expressed her condolences to the deceased’s family.
