Those who wait on the Lord get new strength; they mount up with wings like eagles; they run and do not grow weary, they walk and do not grow weary. (Isaiah 40:31)
Oswald Chambers says faith is not just about soaring with wings like eagles. It is also about walking and not getting tired. Faith must have feet. Faith is a “work” word. It is a word of action. Faith is not about dramatic events or emotions. Faith says: “Lord, I love You and I will persevere. I will persevere through the rough patches and I will walk through the desert. I will not give up even if it’s hard, because I believe in You and what You want to give me.” If this is your attitude, the day will come when you will walk out of the desert into the land of milk and honey, just as the Israelites did.
Faith is not a feeling, it is a fact. 2 Corinthians 5:7 says: “For we walk by faith and not by sight.” There are a lot of false teachings in this regard that have found their way into the church. Unfortunately, there are people who say: “Come to Jesus and all your problems will disappear.” Nowhere in the Bible is it said. If you come to Jesus unconditionally, He will walk through the fire with you. This is why so many people become disillusioned; they believe a lie. They say: “I asked God and He did not give me what I asked for.” What did you ask God for?
1 John 5:14-15 says: “This is the boldness we have towards Him, that He hears us if we ask something according to His will. And if we know that He hears us, then we know that, whatever we ask, we obtain the prayers we asked from Him.” This is the secret. We must ask in accordance with God’s will – not according to our desires. It doesn’t matter what you are going through, God will give us the strength to persevere. “He said: I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5). This is his promise to us, this is why we should not grow weary and weary.
My Father, there are times when I get so tired. I know that I will find the strength to persevere at the foot of the cross. It is there that I must lay down my will. It is there that I will find your will for the situation in which I find myself. Amen.
