As we age, our skin undergoes several changes, including a loss of elasticity and a decrease in collagen production, but long-lasting, invasive skin care procedures do not necessarily suit everyone’s pocket or taste.
According to Ruan Winter, marketing manager of the Vitaderm skin care brand, maintaining a youthful, glowing complexion is more important and achievable with a healthy home skin care regimen.
“Non-invasive treatments, such as chemical peels, laser therapy and microneedling (microneedling), can be effective in reducing the signs of aging, but it is more important to take care of your skin correctly on a daily basis.”
Winter shares five basic tips for a healthy appearance:
Protect your skin from the sun
One of the most effective ways to prevent premature aging is to protect your skin from the sun.
Prolonged sun exposure can lead to skin damage, including wrinkles, fine lines, age spots and an increased risk of skin cancer.
To protect your skin from the sun, be sure to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 every day, even on cloudy days.
Vitaderm’s Reflective Sun Barrier SPF 35+ contains a high percentage of reflective content that provides protection against both UVA and UVB rays, making it a safer and healthier alternative to sunscreens that contain high levels of chemicals.

Moisturize regularly
Moisturizing is essential for maintaining healthy, hydrated skin, and can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Choose a moisturizer formulated for your skin type and apply it to your face and neck every morning and night.
For an extra boost, choose a moisturizing serum or facial oil to use with your daily moisturizer.
Look for a mild exfoliant
Exfoliation is an important step in any skin care routine as it helps to remove dead skin cells and promote cell turnover.
However, remember to exfoliate gently, as products with harsh ingredients can cause irritation and damage to the skin. Consider a chemical peel that contains alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) and use only once or twice a week.
Choose products with these anti-aging ingredients
Ingredients such as retinoids, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid (hyaluronic acid), and peptides help to moisturize the skin and build up protein in the skin.
Vitaderm’s Retinol Serum’s perfected formulation contains a 2.5% blend of vitamin A’s that provide super antioxidant properties and enhance skin regeneration.
Retinol is the primary, most naturally occurring form of vitamin A and is best known for its antiaging properties.
Winter emphasizes that these serums should only be used at night on a clean face.
“When using any retinol product during the day, it is essential to use a sunscreen of at least SPF 30,” he adds.
Consider professional non-invasive treatments this fall
In addition to home skin care, according to Winter, there are several professional treatments that can help you achieve a more youthful, glowing complexion.
Among the most popular anti-aging treatments are chemical peels and according to Winter, autumn is the best time to get one of these types of treatments. The cooler weather and lower humidity levels cause less stress on the skin during the recovery period.
“Vitaderm offers a range of professional in-salon exfoliation treatments that remove the outer layer of dead skin cells and stimulate the production of new, healthy skin cells. This process can take a few days to a week, during which the skin may look and feel slightly irritated or sensitive, but after the recovery period you can welcome spring with renewed, refreshed skin.”
