Two men from Egypt, aged 33 and 34, were arrested in connection with the disappearance and murder in March 2023 of a former business partner, also from Egypt.
Lt. Gen. Thembisile Patekile, provincial police commissioner in the Western Cape, welcomed the arrest.
The two men appeared in the Grabouw Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. They were arrested last week respectively in Grabouw and Queenstown in the Eastern Cape.
Lt. Col. Malcolm Pojie, spokesperson for the police, says the two men appeared in court on charges of kidnapping and murder. “The matter has been postponed until April 13. They remain in custody. The case has been transferred to the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrates’ Court.”
A preliminary investigation revealed that the accused visited the victim, Saeed Mansour, on 31 March 2023 at his workplace. They argued that he embezzled a sum of cash from their profit. They bundled him into a car and drove away with him.
Mansour was later reported missing and the police investigated a case of kidnapping.
“The investigation led the team to Grabouw where they arrested one of the suspects on 4 April. The second person was arrested in Queenstown on 7 April.”
One of the accused cooperated and provided information to the police where Mansour’s body was buried. His body was found in a shallow grave near Baden Powell Drive in Mitchell’s Plain.
The management of the provincial police praised the task force for their work.
